Card-Present Authorizations for Cash Advances with Credit Cards

With a cash advance, a cardholder can withdraw cash against their credit card account limit. The cardholder swipes, inserts, or taps the card at a point of sale (POS) terminal installed at a merchant establishment. The customer enters a PIN to verify their identity, and the issuer verifies the PIN. Some issuers allow cardholders to request their PINs online. The merchant runs the transaction for the customer-requested amount, plus a fee if needed, and disburses the requested amount of cash.
A cardholder can also obtain a cash advance at any branch of their own bank. At the bank, valid identification can be provided instead of a PIN.
This feature is supported for Visa credit cards and for Mastercard credit cards in the US.
